Nelspruit, besides being the political capital of Mpumalanga, is also a gateway to all things wonderful and exciting from the ancient to the sheer breathtaking. The Kruger Park is a stone throw away and if you do not suffer from claustrophobia, the Sudwala Caves are a must see. They are situated some 37 kilometres north-west of Nelspruit, The Sudwala Caves were discovered in the 19th century by Swazi Prince Somquba on his flight from his brother Mswati. Typical African feuds had forced to the prince to flee here to escape terrible retribution of the tribe. Deep inside you find the caves you will come upon the “Owen Hall" – with its eighteen metres high ceilings and sixty six metres in diameter cavern. You feel like you are in some underground cathederal or holy place. These 3,000 million year old caves are truly awe inspiring. Adjacent to the cave sis the P.R. Owen Dinosaur Park. A South African sculptor produced the life-size replica of these prehistoric animals, which look so life they could “up and run away” at any moment. Ask for a mobile home rental to Nelspruit about a campervan to explore the Kruger Park in. Although the journey to the park is short you want to pop into the Magoebaskloof Getaway Camping grounds as stopover before entering the Kruger park.
