The name Midrand may be foreign to Europeans tongue but in essence this area is smack bang in the middle of Pretoria and Johannesburg. It is very easy to find a campervan hire to Midrand, and because it is so central you can hop in your cam'pervan and flip a coin in which direction to you want to go. Jo'burg and the Rand area to the left and Pretoria to your right, depending of course which way you are facing. Then there is Sandton peeking out inthe north for all your fancy shops and upmarket venues.
As both cities, Jo'burg and Pretoria grew in size the need for development space pushed its respective boundaries further and further out. Halfway house as the area was once known has been basically enveloped to form Midrand. Many businesses have relocated to Midrand due to its proximity to excellent highway links and its location in the economic centre of Johannesburg. This new area has grown extremely fast and what used to be semi rural is still evident in the older parts of Halfway House. There is plenty to do in the area and the Kyalami golf course and International racing track are just off the N1 highway. Gallagher Estate is hosts a number of festivals, exhibitions, music concerts.
